Birds in indigenous culture

Listen to stories from Alaska's Indigenous cultures and learn how stories taught about the nature of birds and the nature of humans. In the last part of the class, you'll get the chance to create your own story!

$25 registration fee for a 1.5 hour class.

potter Marsh tour

Join a bird biologist at the Potter Marsh boardwalk for a nature talk about the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge and its importance for migratory birds. Bring your binoculars so you can spot various avian species. Choose from an adult-only group or bring the kids for a family-friendly experience.

$20 registration fee for a one hour class. Class size: 15.

Bird songs: coastal trail birding walk

Participants will learn the art of listening to and identifying birds by their songs. You'll have the chance to hear and see various migratory species such as thrushes, warblers, kinglets and sparrows as well as resident birds. Binoculars recommended. Meet at Point Woronzof parking lot.

$30 registration fee for a 1.5 hour class. Class size: 12.

5/13/23, 8 - 9:30 am

Level: This is an easy, flat walk, suitable for birders of all abilities.

Bird songs: kincaid park birding hike

Participants will learn the art of listening to and identifying birds by their songs. You'll have the chance to hear and see various migratory species such as thrushes, warblers, kinglets and sparrows as well as resident birds. Binoculars recommended. Meet at Raspberry parking lot.

$30 registration fee for a 1.5 hour class. Class size: 10.

5/20/23, 8 - 9:30 am

Level: This is a moderate terrain hike with some hills.

Bird songs: kincaid bluffs birding hike

Participants will learn the art of listening to and identifying birds by their songs. You'll have the chance to hear and see various migratory species such as thrushes, warblers, kinglets and sparrows as well as resident birds. Binoculars recommended. Meet at parking lot next to soccer field near Kincaid Chalet.

$40 registration fee for a two hour class. Class size: 6.

5/26/23, 8 - 10 am

Level: This is a difficult terrain hike with steep hills. Trekking poles are highly recommended.
